Today, I presented my draft (see blog post - reflection #4 for the score snapshots) to the class. I saw a few students reacting to my composition. I got a few heads nodding, hands clicking and body moving to the groove, which makes me really impressed about how I adapted to the model.
I received feedback from students - there are slightly small things I need to draw my attention to:
Drop out a part to condense / lighten the texture - in pre-chorus or even chorus because it seemed similar all the way through.
Listen out for texture - bring out the parts more. It was really hard to hear out the parts due to the mixer and bad quality of playback from MuseScore. During the recording process (on Monday 31st October), I will bring parts out as necessary, only if they can't be heard.
Play around with the clapping rhythm so that it's not the same for the entire song.
Based on the feedback today, I decided to work on those things, and indeed it sounded much better. I think I'm happy with it this way. Will only change based on recording. James mentioned that when I record, I shouldn't sing or play off the score. The score means nothing without its recording - it's only a guide.
So yea, greatly looking forward to recording on Monday with James, and in the meantime, here is what I worked on based on the feedback I received today. Not sure about the title to my song as of yet - possibly thinking of calling it "I am who I am." More updates to be posted soon :)
